About the role
Regulatory oversight across a portfolio — the person the regulator holds to account for how a group of services actually operates.
These are the criteria providers across the UK typically set for this role, so you can judge your own fit before you apply anywhere. Individual services vary — any role we put you forward for will have its own criteria, pay and rota, and we confirm those with the provider first.
What the role usually involves
- Hold registration as the Responsible Individual and supervise the management of each regulated activity
- Support and challenge Registered Managers, and know each service well enough for that to mean something
- Own the quality assurance framework and the evidence behind it
- Lead the response to inspection, enforcement action and serious incidents
- Advise the board on risk, growth and registration
Typical criteria
- Substantial senior leadership in regulated children’s or adult services
- Experience of holding registration, or of working immediately alongside someone who did
- Command of the regulations, inspection frameworks and enforcement routes in your sector
- Evidence of improving quality across more than one service
- Willingness to travel across the portfolio
Often asked for as well
Not usually dealbreakers, but they widen the range of services that will consider you.
- Experience of registering new services or integrating acquired ones
- Board-level or investor-facing reporting
- A relevant Level 5 or senior management qualification
Hours and pay
Full-time, mostly remote and on the road, with regular time inside the services themselves.
Usually includes a car or car allowance. Portfolio size, geography and travel expectations move the range more than anything on the job description.
Checks and eligibility
- An enhanced DBS check on the relevant barred list, or a current one on the update service we can check
- The right to work in the UK — we are not a licensed sponsor, so we cannot offer visa sponsorship or take over an existing certificate
- A full employment history with references covering it, including one from your most recent care employer
- Proof of identity and address, plus evidence of any qualification or professional registration the role depends on
