Operations Manager

Children’s & Adult social care · Regional portfolios · Multi-site providers · New service mobilisation

Typical pay£60,000–£85,000

About the role

Running a group of services through their managers — performance, quality, and the staffing reality sitting behind both.

These are the criteria providers across the UK typically set for this role, so you can judge your own fit before you apply anywhere. Individual services vary — any role we put you forward for will have its own criteria, pay and rota, and we confirm those with the provider first.

What the role usually involves

  • Hold Registered Managers to account and develop them into the job
  • Track performance across occupancy, staffing, agency spend and quality
  • Lead improvement plans where a service is drifting
  • Support the mobilisation of new services and new contracts
  • Keep senior leadership honestly informed about what is happening on the ground

Typical criteria

  • Multi-site management experience in children’s or adult social care
  • A record of improving quality and stabilising teams, with numbers behind it
  • Detailed understanding of the relevant regulator’s expectations
  • Financial literacy across budgets, agency spend, occupancy and staffing ratios
  • Willingness to travel across a region

Often asked for as well

Not usually dealbreakers, but they widen the range of services that will consider you.

  • Level 5 or a recognised management qualification
  • Experience of TUPE, acquisition or new-service mobilisation
  • A previous Registered Manager background

Hours and pay

Full-time, split between services, home and head office, with significant travel.

Regional scope, portfolio size and whether the role carries real profit-and-loss accountability set the range. A car or car allowance is usual at this level.

Checks and eligibility

  • An enhanced DBS check on the relevant barred list, or a current one on the update service we can check
  • The right to work in the UK — we are not a licensed sponsor, so we cannot offer visa sponsorship or take over an existing certificate
  • A full employment history with references covering it, including one from your most recent care employer
  • Proof of identity and address, plus evidence of any qualification or professional registration the role depends on
